Recently, I was told by my very dear friend Katterine that my morning routine needed some work.
I had thought it was pretty decent:
Wake up, make breakfast, shower, brush my teeth, comb my hair, put clothes on, and bam! Ready for the day.
She informed me that I was missing a crucial step: My alarm clock!
My alarm is set to 7 am everyday, but the ringtone is this hideous abomination that sounds like 1000 babies crying. Almost in harmony, but off pitch just enough to notice and irritated the spot in my brain that says “OMG IF YOU ARE GOING TO SING HARMONIES, SING THEM RIGHT OR DON’T SING THEM AT ALL”
I thought about it and she was right. The first event of me waking up was actually hearing my alarm clock. I needed to remedy this problem.
The solution was actually pretty easy. As I am a sucker for good harmonies and peaceful melodies, I changed my alarm clock ringtone to this song:
It’s has been two days and I have recorded the results:
Happiness: Up 100%
Awake-ness: Down 50%* (This is because I woke up at 6 am to get ready for a meeting instead of 7 am like usual)
Day 2 (today):
Happiness: Up 250%
Awake-ness: Up 75%
So as you can see, the secret to being happy and starting the day off right is waking up to something you love to listen to. (I don’t know why I didn’t figure this out sooner)
